What SOC 2 Type 1 and HIPAA Certification Means for Ovation LIMS Customers

Obtaining our SOC 2 Type 1 and HIPAA certification is an important milestone to demonstrate the security, availability, and integrity of Ovation LIMS. This third-party validation reflects the significant investments we’ve made to ensure our clients are using a LIMS with top-tier data protection.

The certification comes at a time when diagnostic laboratories are increasingly choosing to eliminate infrastructure overhead and reduce compliance risk by partnering with a LIMS provider that is hosted in the cloud instead of an on-premise server. A SOC 2 certification gives laboratory leaders the confidence they need to know the cloud-based software they chose meets the stringent standards required to handle sensitive patient information.

The SOC 2 Type 1 and HIPAA Certification Process

An independent accounting firm conducted the SOC 2 audit following attestation standards established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). To comply with SOC 2, we demonstrated that our internal controls, policies, and procedures are suitably designed and operating effectively to meet the system requirements and service commitments set forth by the Trust Services Criteria and the HIPAA Security Rule (45 CFR Sections 164.308-316). Specifically, the auditors validated that we have a strong, comprehensive data security program in place to keep sensitive client information safe including access controls, audit logging, authentication, incident management, data integrity and backup, workforce training, and more.
